The Ultimate Minimalist Baby Registry

A big congratulations must be in order! What an exciting time, beginning preparations for your new baby!

I loved this phase of pregnancy! It’s so fun planning ahead for your sweet little babe that’s on the way!

Today’s post is all about a minimalist approach to your baby registry! Included is a list of everything you NEED for your baby, along with a few suggestions that are completely optional, but from experience, could be extremely helpful!

As a new parent, you are bombarded with the overwhelming amount of baby gadgets out there, and honestly your child needs almost none of it. Here are the basics, while still having a happy, healthy baby and Mama!

The whole mindset in this registry process, is less is more! So, we are aiming for functional, necessities that are made of quality, and are durable!

To begin, you can set up your baby registry anywhere! I personally chose Amazon, because you can set up a diaper fund anyone can contribute to!

Amazon will also gift you a diaper discount during your first year up to a certain dollar amount, once your registry has reached around $500 worth of purchases!

They also send you a free box of baby items!… Sounds pretty great right!

The Ultimate Minimal Baby Registry:

Everything you need for diaper changes:

– Diapers – of course. After trying many diapers, we have decided to go with Huggies Special Delivery, as they are extremely soft, don’t smell like chemicals, and are plant based!

Wipes– I like to use ones that are 99% water to avoid the many chemicals some brands use.

-Butt Balm/ Diaper Paste- I love this one! It’s all natural, smells great and my daughter loves playing with the container!

Changing pad– I like using a changing pad without any cover on it, as it’s easy to wipe down, and a little extra poopy laundry can be avoided!

Clothing:

– Newborn onesies (long or short sleeve depending on the season and where you live)

– Size 0-3M onsies

– Pants

Pajamas– Having the open bottom for convenience of diaper changes, is extra nice during the middle of the night!

– Socks

– Hats/ Bonnets

Mittens – used to protect baby from their own nails! It’s surprising how sharp they can be! You want these ones, as the other kind with the scrunchy wrist part falls off easily!

If you live where winter is pretty chilly, you will also need a winter snow suit!

For out and about:

Car seat– Out of all my recommendations, this is my absolute favorite! This car seat is awesome because it is so easy to use! No struggling to tightening or loosening straps, it’s all done with pulling the headrest up or down.

Baby wrap or ring sling!

Health and Safety items:

Thermometer

Tiny nose sucker – something I never thought I would have an opinion on, but the tiny sized nose sucker is so much better then the normal size!

Nail clippers. Mom tip- When baby is very little you may want to use a nail file for a little while until babies nails are a little thicker and easier to see.

– If you don’t have insurance that covers a breast pump, you need to put one on your registry!

A pump is a necessity even if you plan to exclusively breastfeed not using bottles! My daughter was born with both a tongue and lip tie and pumping was all I could do for a while. You never know when you might need one!

Handheld Pump for on the go and when needing to give your child medicine like Arnica, which works best dissolved in milk!

Bottles – These are the exact ones my lactation consultant swears by, they are amazing!

– Burp clothes – anything absorbent will do

Wooden teether/ baby toy! For months these were my daughters favorite for biting and playing!

– Utility plug covers

Bath time:

Baby bath

Baby Soap – Babies don’t really need to be washed with soap every time. I like to use a pump of Honest Company’s when I do use soap as unlike some very well known baby soap brand, this doesn’t have toxic chemicals!

– A swaddle blanket specifically for bath time! Little babies LOVE to get swaddled during their bath, it’s so relaxing and cozy!

For towels, the ones you already have for yourself are perfect and actually work better!

Everything for Eating – Using a Baby Led Weaning Approach:

High Chair – When picking a high chair, it’s important to have one with a foot rest to help prevent choking

– Bibs

– Drinking Cup – my daughter actually just uses a shot glass, but there are small cups specifically made for babies too.

Child Size Utensils

For Getting Cozy:

– Bassinet

– Bassinet fitted sheets

Baby lounger (optional)

– Two Swaddle Blanket

Things you may want to consider for yourself but are totally optional:

– Nursing bras

Nursing Pillow – I really appreciated sitting on one after having my baby, and it’s great for nursing and lounging as baby gets older!

Nursing cover- I really like this one because it holds open just enough for you to see your baby while still having privacy.

Peri bottle– taking care of your body after birth is so important, do yourself a favor and get one with a long neck!

There you have it! The basic necessities for your baby registry, plus a few great items to make life with your new baby a little more functional! No point in cluttering your home with tons of baby stuff!

Enjoy all your baby prepping!
